Uniform

We remain committed to ensuring that any future uniform guidance is inclusive, affordable, practical, and respectful of the diverse needs of our pupils and families. Governors will consider this feedback at the start of the autumn term, and should any changes be agreed, they will be introduced gradually to allow families to make use of existing uniform items until they naturally need replacing.

Please note that we have been informed of a supplier issue regarding the royal blue PE skorts. We are in contact with the suppliers, and are working towards a solution.

Uniform

All uniform items can be worn throughout the year. However, many families find it helpful to switch between seasonal options:

• Winter uniform (typically worn from autumn half-term in late October until the Easter holidays) includes warmer options such as tunics, long trousers
• Summer uniform (typically worn from after the Easter holidays until autumn half-term) includes lighter options such as summer dresses or shorts

Your child may wear whichever option is most comfortable for them, regardless of the time of year.

Dress Code

Spare Uniform

For children in Nursery and Reception, we ask for spare uniform, pants and tights/socks to be kept in a drawstring bag on the children’s pegs.

 

Outdoor wear

Please ensure children bring weather appropriate clothes, including a warm, shower-proof coat in the winter and a sun hat in the summer.

 Named wellington boots are required for outdoor learning in nursery and reception.

 

Jewellery

A wrist watch is permitted. Smart watches that link to a phone or have camera functions will not be permitted. Please note that if a child brings an allowed device to school, it is their responsibility to keep it safe. The school cannot be held liable for any loss or damage.

Plain silver or gold stud earrings are permitted but these need to be removed for PE lessons and swimming.

 

Hair

We ask for long hair to be tied back with an appropriate hair bobble and/or clip. These should be blue or black and not overly ornate.

 Hair colourant, excessive use of hair gel and patterns shaved into hair are not acceptable.

 Religious headwear should be in line with uniform colours.

 

Make-up

Nail varnish, fake nails, fake tan and make-up are not permitted.

 

Special Note

If you wish your child to wear special items of clothing and/or jewellery for a particular religious reasons, you should contact the Head Teacher. Individual requests will be dealt with respectfully and with regard to Health and Safety requirements.

Uniform Policy Review

Our school uniform policy was reviewed in partnership with the governing body in the summer term of 2025, to ensure our uniform provides value for money, meets the needs of all our families, and complies with the DfE's statutory guidance on school uniform costs.

 As part of this process, we gathered valuable feedback from parents, carers, pupils, and staff through an online survey. We were delighted to receive a significant number of responses from parents and carers, reflecting a wide range of perspectives and demonstrating how strongly families care about what works best for their children.

All comments were carefully reviewed and helped inform the changes we made, which take effect from September 2026. The key changes to our uniform are:

• Moving from shirt and tie to polo shirts for all pupils - This change will reduce costs for families and improve practicality. It will also maintain our smart appearance while being more comfortable for daily wear.

• Removing the winter/summer uniform distinction - Pupils can now wear either summer or winter uniform items throughout the year, giving families greater flexibility and reducing the need to purchase multiple sets of uniform

• Removing compulsory branding - School logos are no longer required on polo shirts, jumpers/cardigans, or PE kits. This significantly reduces costs for families, as plain items in the correct colours can be purchased from any retailer. Families may still choose to purchase branded items if they wish, but this is entirely optional.

These changes mean Manor Primary School goes well beyond the DfE's requirements on limiting compulsory branded items (which come into effect in September 2026). Our updated policy ensures all families can access affordable uniform options while maintaining our school's smart appearance.

Transition arrangements:

• From September 2026, all pupils should wear the new polo shirt uniform
• Pupils may continue to wear existing shirts and ties until they need replacing
• Existing branded items (jumpers, PE kits) remain perfectly acceptable to wear
