Admissions
Applying for a primary school place (Reception)
Children usually start school in the autumn term of the academic year in which they turn five—this means the September following their fourth birthday. At Manor Primary School, we have two Reception classes each September, with a maximum of 30 places per class (60 places in total).
Manor Primary School follows the co-ordinated admissions process managed by Walsall Council. The council provides a detailed admissions guide outlining the entire application process. Parents and carers must submit an online application through their local council’s website.
All applications for named schools are considered based on each school’s published admission criteria. Parents will receive written confirmation of their child’s school place. If a child does not meet the admission criteria for any of their preferred schools, Walsall Council will allocate a place at the nearest alternative school with available spaces.

Over-Subscription Criteria
If applications exceed available places, the following criteria will be used to allocate spaces in priority order:
1️⃣ Looked-after and previously looked-after children will be given the highest priority.
2️⃣ Children with siblings at the school will be prioritized next. Siblings include step-siblings, foster siblings, adopted siblings, and other children permanently living at the same address. Priority will not be given to children with siblings who are former pupils.
3️⃣ Children with social or medical needs will be considered next. Supporting evidence from a medical professional or social worker is required, explaining why our school is the only one that can meet the child’s needs. This will be subject to review by the Governing Body.
4️⃣ Distance from the school will be the final criterion. This will be measured in a straight line from the child’s home to the school using the local authority’s GIS software, with priority given to those living closest.
Admission Appeals
If you wish to appeal against the decision not to admit your child to our school you should complete the Admissions Appeals form and submit it to the address specified.
For applications made during the normal admissions round, the deadline for submitting an appeal is 20 days after National Offer Day. Appeals will be heard within 40 days of the deadline for submitting appeals. Any late applications will be heard within this timeframe if possible, or else within 30 days of the appeal being lodged.
Once you have submitted your appeal form, we will acknowledge receipt of the form within five working days. Your appeals form will be forwarded to the Democratic Services Officer at Walsall Council, who will organise for an appeal hearing to be heard by an Independent Appeals Panel.
The appeals hearing will take place prior to the end of the academic year for applications submitted during the normal admissions round. For in-year admissions, the hearing will take place within thirty working days of our receipt of the appeal. You will receive at least ten working days’ notice of the appeals hearing date and additional information will be provided at this time.
If you miss the deadline for lodging an appeal, we will try, where possible, to hear your appeal within the same timeframe as if it had been on time. However, if this is not possible, it will be heard at a later date. A decision letter should be sent to you within 5 school days of hearing where at all possible.
There is no right of appeal for admissions to our nursery provision.
